A wine named after Samuel Hoffmann, a master potter and craftsman who settled on our property in 1848.
Varietal: 100% Merlot.
Region: Rowland Flat, Barossa Valley.
Vineyard and Vinification:
The vineyard was planted on the property in 1989 and trained on 5 foot high single wire trellis system to maximise
ripening the fruit. Merlot vines are grafted onto two varieties of rootstocks and now yield between 3 to 5 tonnes per
acre depending on the season. The grapes from 18 year old vines were picked at optimum maturity for sugar and flavour in
late April at 14.8°Baume. After temperature controlled fermentation, hand plunging and basket pressing, the wine was matured
in a combination of various aged Nevers and Vosgues hogsheads for 15 months.
