<< Back to list ¦ Next: Riesling Traminer Late Picked >>
A new wine name dedicated to Potter Samuel Hoffmann, the first settler on the LiebichWein property, who handcrafted clay pots which are characterised by his thumb-press on the base of the handle. This wine characterises the winemaking imprint of current property owner Ron Liebich.
Varietal: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot
Region: Rowland Flat, Barossa Valley.
Vineyard and Vinification:
The grapes from 38 year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines (CW's Block) and from younger Merlot grow in heavy red/black soil. Relatively low
yields of 0.5 - 2.5 tonnes per acre, minimal watering, and optimum picking have helped to intensify fruit flavours. The fruit was traditionally
hand plunged and basket pressed and the wine unfiltered at bottling to retain excellent colour & flavour extraction. Gentle maturation for 18
months in older French and Hungarian oak have softened this wine and make this wine eminently drinkable now, but will improve greatly over the
next 3 - 10 years bottle maturation, especially under the screw cap.
Tasting Notes:
Deep, purple-black in colour. Lush blackberry jam and floral with a hint of herbal entwined with soft charry oak and dried fig flavours with
refreshing acid linger on the finish. A rich and rewarding mouthful!
Alcohol: 15.5% v/v.
Cellar: Now to 10 years.
Closure: Screw cap.
